Rene Karapedian has deep roots in both the pet care industry and his local community, with more than three decades dedicated to growing and elevating grooming, daycare, and boarding services throughout Burbank and Glendale, California.
His journey began in the mid-1990s when he started grooming dogs through Glendale’s first mobile grooming business. Shortly thereafter, in the Kenneth Village neighborhood of Glendale, Rene launched Pet Rush, a boutique pet shop and grooming service that quickly became a trusted destination for local pet owners. Pet Rush earned recognition from the City of Glendale as the community’s first Rescue-Only pet store, reflecting Rene’s strong commitment to animal welfare.
Rene’s advocacy for animals gained national attention. He was recognized by organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society and the Humane Society of the United States for championing animal welfare and helping draft one of the first ordinances banning the sale of dogs from puppy mills. The ordinance was first recognized in the City of Glendale and later influenced similar legislation across the country.
As pet ownership continued to grow, so did Rene’s vision. In 2007, he opened Glendale Pet Resort, the first dog and cat daycare and boarding facility in the City of Glendale. In 2012, he expanded into Burbank with Pet Rush Inn, which was soon recognized as Burbank’s Best for two consecutive years and continues to maintain consistent five-star ratings on Yelp.
As his loyal clientele continued to grow, Rene embraced another opportunity in 2018 by acquiring Double Dog Dare Ya, an established pet resort in Burbank. He immediately infused the business with the same high standards, compassion, and operational excellence that have come to define his brand.
Through both the 2008 recession and the 2019 pandemic, Rene not only maintained a strong local business but, with the support of his community, continued to expand and help other businesses thrive. His deep understanding of community needs, combined with his lifelong passion for animals, drives him to continually reimagine new ways to serve the people who have supported him throughout his career in the pet industry.
Most recently, Rene expanded his vision for animal-centered care and community connection by creating Silver Saddle Stables, a horse- and dog-centered community space in the historic Glendale/Burbank Rancho district. The space brings people together through thoughtful interactions with animals, offering equine learning experiences, wellness programs, and canine services designed to strengthen connection, well-being, and community.
With Silver Saddle Stables, Rene continues his lifelong commitment to responsible animal care while helping create a welcoming place where people of all ages can learn, connect, and grow alongside horses and dogs.
